Piercing Aftercare

heal With Confidence

Getting your ears pierced is an exciting experience, but proper aftercare is crucial to ensure healing and prevent complications. Whether it's your first piercing or a new addition to your collection, following the right aftercare steps can make all the difference. Here’s a comprehensive guide to ear piercing aftercare to help you achieve the best results.

Aftercare Tips

1. Understand The Healing Process

Ear piercings typically heal in about 8-12 weeks, but this can vary depending on the type of piercing and individual healing rates. During this time, it’s normal to experience some redness, swelling, and mild discomfort. We provide two complimentary aftercare consultation to access on the healing progress. Feel free to reach out to us if you have further concerns, enquiry@stellarsg.com.

2. Keep Your Piercing Clean

Daily Cleaning Routine:
Wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning your piercing.
Use a saline solution or normal tap water: Clean the area twice daily using a saline solution or normal tap water.
Avoid Using:
Alcohol or Hydrogen Peroxide: These can dry out the piercing and delay healing.
Antibiotic ointments: These can cause irritation or allergic reactions.
Moisture can lead to bacteria infection. Dry the area well.

3. Avoid Touching and Twisting

Hands off: Avoid touching your piercings with unwashed hands to prevent introducing bacteria.
Don’t twist or turn, unless necessary: While it may be tempting, twisting or turning the earrings can irritate the piercing and increase the risk of infection.

4. Choose The Right Jewelry

Our Ear-Piercing technicians will assess your ear lobes and suggest the most suitable material and designs during your appointment.
Avoid changing earrings early: Wait until your piercing has fully healed before changing out the earrings. Changing it too soon can introduce bacteria and disrupt the healing process. During the aftercare appointment, our technicians will assess the piercing and provide suggestions needed.

5. Protect Your Piercings

Avoid swimming: Refrain from swimming in pools, hot tubs, or oceans until your piercing is fully healed to reduce the risk of infection.
Protect during activities: If engaging in activities that might cause trauma to your ears (like sports), consider using protective covering or avoiding the activity until healing is complete. If your earring falls out during the healing process, immediately sterilise it and put it back on. If you are unable to find the earring, quickly insert a plastic ear stick (provided in the aftercare pack) to prevent the hole from closing. It is also important to keep the earrings in during the first year after the piercing.
Avoid removing earrings: You must not remove your piercing studs during the initial healing period, except when cleaning. Keep your ear studs on 24/7 in the first year from piercing to prevent closure of piercing.

6. Monitor for Signs of Infection

Symptoms to watch: Keep an eye out for signs of infection such as excessive redness, swelling, heat, or pus. Mild swelling and redness are normal initially, but severe symptoms warrant professional attention.
Seek professional advice: If you suspect an infection or experience unusual symptoms, consult us or healthcare provider promptly. Feel free to call in to any of our stores to book your aftercare consultation.

7. Adjust Your Routine as Needed

Sleep position: Try to avoid sleeping directly on your newly pierced ear. Use a soft pillow or sleep on your back to prevent irritation.
Avoid hair products: Keep hair sprays, gels, and shampoos away from your piercings, as they can cause irritation or introduce bacteria.
Avoid seafood and foods that are raw or undercooked for the first week after piercing.

8. Maintain a Healthy Diet

A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can support your body’s healing process. Vitamins A, C, and zinc are particularly beneficial for skin health and wound healing.
